Bug Description

The modprobe ch341 fails with the following error:
[ 1186.582421] usbcore: deregistering interface driver ch341
[ 1186.587506] usbserial: USB Serial deregistering driver ch341-uart
[ 2260.948951] usbserial: USB Serial support registered for ch341-uart
[ 2260.955430] ch341 1-1:1.0: ch341-uart converter detected
[ 2261.960103] ch341: probe of 1-1:1.0 failed with error -5
[ 2261.964376] usbcore: registered new interface driver ch341

The output from lsusb is:
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1a86:7523
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0e0f:0002
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

The cable worked fine with ubuntu 8.04 and the ch341-dkms as prescribed by:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-921409.html

I am running ubuntu 8.10 in vmware fusion. I also tried ubuntu 8.04 with the ch341-dkms under vmware fusion, and it also appears to have the same problem.

This seems to be a VMware issue. The ch341 module works fine under parallels.

Hi sma.arch,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 314572

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
