backlight dimming - random brightness

Bug Description

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on an Asus X56SN notebook, should be same as the Asus M51SN. Since the new kernel update "linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic" the backlight dimming on my notebook doesn't work correctly, like it did in the kernel before. The Brightness seems to be set randomly.

It seems to me like this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/312997
Please try to discover if it is the same problem.
If it isn't please try create new user and find out whether this behavoiur occurs there as well. Or discover other informations about this bug.
