Bug Description

In jaunty alpha 2, and in 8.10, I'm seeing font rendering issues in various java applications. I have tried several fonts and have the same result in each. This worked fine in 8.04.

I have attached a screenshot of one of the examples.

I'm running:
ubuntu jaunty 9.04 (alpha2)
java-6-sun-1.6.0.11
on a Lenovo X61s
(in this example Aqua Data Studio v 7.0.22)

Thanks!

I'm experiencing very similar issues. In my case it is with JabRef. Font rendering is garbled at times, table rows are not tall enough for the contained text, etc. I have attached an image that shows this.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 (currently up to date with repos)
sun-java6-jdk 6-12-0ubuntu1
Lenovo X200

I've also tried using OpenJDK, but with similar results.

Interesting. I run:
# xdpyinfo | grep dots

and get resolution: 106x105 dots per inch

yet in the Details tab on System->Preferences->Appearance->Fonts it shows the resolution at 96dpi.

I had to downgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 to get some work done - do you think just changing the DPI to 105 would work?

The same problem here.
Running OmegaT 2.0.5 in Karmic 64bit fully updated.
Seems a java problem not ubuntu related.
I have the same result running system or the embedded to the application java

:~$ sudo update-java-alternatives -l
java-6-sun 63 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun

:~$ java -jar -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on /opt/OmegaT/OmegaT.jar

The -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on option makes a small difference but does not solve the problem.
