Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty x86_64
compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu5
compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.7.8-0ubuntu4
xserver-xorg-video-radeon

Hiding windows or a panel (autohide) leaves white colored areas on the desktop behind.
See the attached screenshot for an example with a hidden (oversized) panel and some windows repeatedly hidden.

These conditions have to be met:
- Desktop background set to "No Wallpaper", solid color
- Nautilus as desktop is disabled
- Screen filtering of the Color Filter plugin is turned on
(sample filter file is attached below)

TEST CASE:
gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename -t string ""
gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/background/picture_options -t string "none"
gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/background/color_shading_type -t string "solid"
gconftool-2 -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop -t bool false
gconftool-2 -s /apps/panel/toplevels/bottom_panel_screen0/auto_hide -t bool true
Add the attached colorfilter_brightness.col to plugin "Color Filter"
Press <Super>d # compiz keyboard shortcut for "Color Filter"->"Toggle screen filtering"
Unhide and hide the bottom panel -> panel background becomes white
Hide and unhide windows -> window background becomes white

Update:
using Radeon X800 with xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu6

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I would, but I'm unable to recreate the bug conditions on the Karmic live cd. The original system doesn't exist anymore and there is no out-of-the-box 3D support for the r700 based new one, see Bug #419126. Also Bug #325973 prevents disabling of nautilus.
I'll try to find a workaround for the latter and test on my test system with upstream 3D drivers.

Testing compiz 1:0.8.3+git20091005-0ubuntu5 with xorg-edgers libdrm/mesa/glx/drm on radeon HD 4670 and X-GNOME-AutoRestart=false in /usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop.

The screen corruption is no where to be seen. The only glitch I came across is a brief unfiltered flash of every freshly opened and closed window and menu before the filtering kicks in. Nothing serious and I had switched to the obs plugin long ago anyway >;)

Since there has been nobody else on this bug report it seems safe to close it.
