Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

flickering Video & games with ATI HD 3650 AGP even with 8.12 driver from amd could this be from compiz but it still does it with compiz off the nvidia cards i have are fine but the ati works better in alot of ways but it just is flickering with video and games that have some kind of 3d to them so help i love ubuntu its the linux iv been looking for !!!!!!!!!!!
no more vista maybe mac if i had the money ubuntu will do thanks

Thanks for submitting the bug in effort to try and make ubuntu better. Can you please share with us the version of Ubuntu your using? With you reporting that this is an ATI AGP card, this is a desktop with an added video card, right? What games are you running where you're having issues? Are these natively installed games, or other games installed using Wine, Cedega, or Crossover Games? What version of xserver-xorg-video-ati does your system show as installed?

i have tried disabling compiz still flickering the ver of ubuntu is 8.10 ibex all updates except pre release and unsupported updates

how do i find version of xserver-xorg-video-ati
how do i find the ver i know where the xorg.config file is
also my computer spec. are AMD2100+ CPU 2GB Ram ATI HD3650 512MB AGP Motherboard Iwillxp333-r ANTEC 500watt powersupply 40GB harddrive

it flickers on natively installed 3d games all video apps to & wine.

it seem like a refresh type thing but not really?

Also My belkin USB2.0 5-port pci card freezes my computer sometimes when pluging in devices sometimes?

& lindvd no sound something about dev/dsp
there's a dsp1 in the folder but not dsp

gnome drivers from ubuntu admin menu -hardware drivers

If you disable Compiz and it still flickers, then this bug cannot be a duplicate of bug #179042. If you mean tearing instead of flickering then it could be a duplicate of bug #303697.

opengl video output is tearing or flickering ? or is that the same ?
also, does this happen with pci express two mine is agp?

opengl support in drivers is buggy in ati hd drivers i tried this link witch works
but not as good as opengl video output it uses X11 video output for video apps

i have a problem with lindvd to do u have a idea i put a copy of dsp1 and renamed it to dsp in dir now it loads but no soud

i have ubuntu 8.10 on 2 computers a laptop and desktop laptop Is HPDV2116wm works great everything works but it has a nvidia video 6150 chipset the desktop motherboard is iwillxp333-r it has ALI chipset here's a link on that motherboard specs. that might help with the problem with the video agp and audio

with ATI AGP the problem is compiz disable visual effects & video & 3d games work no flickering
 useing old Nvidia 5700 fx AGP i don't have to disable effects it works
i will keep useing the ati and hope i can fix the problem with compiz

  what all executable extensions are there in linux like .bin .run ........
or where can i find out it would help i know u can make a file executable in permissions but i want to know file extensions like windows .bat .exe .........but for linux commands in a windows batch file kind of way ?? do u understand thanks

creat a shortcut to dsp1 set the name to dsp and set the premissions on the shortcut in folder
gksudo nautilus /dev

to root owner readonly audio read&write other readonly and it fixes it!!! its caused buy ati's audio on video card but if u had usb speakers it would fix without doing the folowing steps! reboot u should hear a sound on login screen to know it works!!! because dsp is known as default in the os but when more than one audio device its set to dsp1 !!!!!!!! and ect.it's really a ATI thing that i found that was diffrent from Nvidia card and chipsets!!!! but allso ALI chipsets are owned by nvidia now days but my problem is from the onboard 5.1 audio set as default out put for the ATI video Card!!!!for hd video dvi hdmi !!! i fix the prob so i hope this helps some one ?????????? dvd programs Lindvd

the new ati driver 9.3 and updates fix this at least for me works with compiz enable but the default sound is still the hdmi i used asoundconf set-default-card to set the one to default but still no help i have another prob with my Belkin usb 2.0 5-port pci card freezing the computer when i plugin keyboard and other devices why don't know works sometimes
