deskbar-applet is outdated in the repositories

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

On November 22, 2008, was released the 2.24.2 version of deskbar-applet, solving some important bugs. But, in the repositories, is still the 2.24.1 version of the package.

2.24.2 is a stable update to the 2.24 series, so it might be possible to consider it for a SRU for Intrepid. I've subscribed ubuntu-sru for their thoughts.

Looking at the upstream changelog, this update fixes 4 bugs with no other changes (one of these is LP bug 282371):

In any case it should be updated in Jaunty, which also has 2.24.1 still.

For SRU I'm not convinced yet. Most patches do not match the SRU criteria, just this one looks interesting:

Does that affect intrepid? Does it represent a regression?

Jaunty should probably be updated to the development 2.25.x series really. I can probably do that.

Gnome bug 559169 affects Intrepid, and means that you can't perform power management actions from the deskbar, which is a regression. I don't mind having a look to see if I can cherry-pick the patch for that one (it should be trivial really)

closing the bug since the new version is in jaunty now, you can open an intrepid task if required

Based on the discussion with Martin earlier, I don't think that there is any point opening an Intrepid task for this. I will however prepare an Intrepid update which fixes the change in the gnome-power-manager dbus path, when I get the time

I strongly disagree that it's not worth shipping an update for intrepid. Gnome bug #552204 has tons of duplicates which makes deskbar practically unusable for a lot of users.
