Java Applets Not Loading

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Despite loading Java on both Ubuntu and the Firefox browser enclosed within; I am unable to load the lone java applet I use on the internet.

Could you attach the output of "java -version" ? Does firefox freeze when you try to load an applet?
