Bug Description

x11vnc has been stuck at 0.9.3 since gutsy-backports. I see that jaunty is still there as well. 0.9.6 has been released and has some important changes and 0.9.7 is in the works. It would be great to have more attention on keeping this package up to date, especially when the author is *very* responsive to emails and willing to help users out.

Specifically, it would be great to have the "-reopen" support that has been added to 0.9.6 which is a preferred way of getting around the gdm killing client problem.

I support this comment, version 0.9.6 fixes a lot of bugs reported in Launchpad. The author aanswers even Ubuntuforums to help users ( i.e. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=965695&page=2 ) and some bugs are known to be solved in 0.9.6 version. With 0.9.3 x11vnc is buggy, for example, to access througth web.

The "-reopen" option is a feature that will save a lot of headaches.

+1. I just got done fighting through getting x11vnc running under gdm session and the -reopen option would make it much easier.

Is there a way to help this along? Is it possible to become one of the maintainers for this package to be able to help out?

It's probably too late to get it into the Jaunty cycle, but could it be considered for Karmic?

I've spent a lot of time fighting with tightvnc and vnc4server in Jaunty, and have (tentatively) settled on x11vnc. It's kinda cool how different areas of the distro get attention in various release cycles; would be nice to see the VNC and RDP systems get some love. :)

It would be very nice to have the latest version in Karmic.

0.9.7-2 is now in Debian and can be synced. It is not in testing yet because of a dependency issue on one architecture, which shouldn't affect Ubuntu.

The Ubuntu changes can be dropped. One of them was made to resolve a no-longer-relevant FTBFS in Ubuntu (0.9.7-2 builds in Lucid as is), and the other was made for a binary package no longer provided by libvncserver (x11vnc is now packaged separately, and we should sync it after updating this one).

debian/changelog entries since the current Ubuntu release:

libvncserver (0.9.7-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * QA upload.
   * Don't build linuxvnc on non-linux architectures (Closes: #542592).
   * Add a debian/README.source.

libvncserver (0.9.7-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * QA upload.
   * New upstream release (Closes: #529010):
     - x11vnc is removed upstream from libvncserver sources.
       Now, it is released separately.
   * Added patches:
     - 03_no_x11vnc_subdir.patch
       Remove x11vnc remaining occurrences from the build system.
     - 04_rename_linuxvnc.patch
       Rename LinuxVNC to linuxvnc.
   * Bumped debian/compat from 5 to 7.
   * Updated debian/control:
     - Cleanuped build dependencies.
     - Switched to quilt patch system.
     - Added Homepage field.
     - Added libjpeg62-dev and zlib1g-dev dependencies to libvncserver-dev.
       (Closes: #515029)
     - Added priority extra and section debug to libvncserver0-dbg.
     - Removed x11vnc package.
   * Added debian/not-installed:
     - *.la files are not installed anymore in libvncserver-dev.
   * Switched debian/rules from cdbs to dh usage.
