Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Classic scenario...

I can receive mail from my gmail, comcast, and my 1and1 mail accounts through the thunderbird client. But, I cannot send mail... Receive a "Sending of message failed" error that states it's unable to connect to the SMTP server. Nothing has changed with the settings for outbound mail...I've confirmed that. Ports are correct, authentication is correct....it just stopped working. Is there a solution to this? And if so, why does this happen?

maybe your smtp provider now requires authentication or TLS or something? What SMTP have you configured for your accounts?

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will try to do the same, as well...

I currently use TLS(if available) for all accounts. The account settings I have are as follows:

smtp.comcast.net - port 25 - "user name and password" block checked with proper username (portion of email before "@")
smtp.1and1.com - port 25 - "user name and password" block checked with proper username (entire email address)
smtp.gmail.com - port 587 - "user name and password" block checked with proper username (entire email address)

I have switched the settings in every possible combination, according to many other posts I see on the web. For example, I've changed the ports, the type of secure connection, and the usernames. Nothing works... I have also deleted the settings and recreated...still nothing.

Is this still an issue for you?
Could it be that your internet provider is now blocking outgoing smtp connections?

Sometimes my send or forward doesn't finish. The mail is send. but the window stays open and I have to cancel the action. I moved to version three but problem still exists. However, it doesn't do it every time I send mail.
