Bug Description
Binary package hint: stellarium
After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, stellarium never gets past a certain point in startup.

My ~/.stellarium/
Tested on a Dell Latitude D610, ATI M22 [Mobility Radeon X300] using the open source radeon driver with and without an attached ViewSonic VA2226w monitor (the fglrx driver does not work well with my two monitor setup). Behaviour is reproducible with a "virgin" account so it's not my user-specific setup.
The problem may have been in the X11 server, not necessarily with Stellarium. I was using the open source radeon driver, but after a brief fling with trying to use fglrx (which still doesn't handle my 2 monitor setup in a usable manner), I reverted to the OSS driver once again. Then all of a sudden things started working (Stellarium, f-spot at least).
I think I noticed one possible freeze/crash occur, and when I close Stellarium now it's very verbose about, for example, "*** glibc detected *** stellarium: corrupted double-linked list: 0x09aab168 ***" but at least it's usable!
Sorry for any red herrings...
