Bug Description

Printing tif (2904x2123 pixels) fails. I opened the same tif in document viewer, and it printed a small image in the lower left corner of the page (about 1/6th of full page size).

Attached is error_log from cups, with debug enabled. Ghostscript dies with the following message (from error_log). The attached log shows two print attempts, one successfull (from document viewer) one unsuccessfull (from gimp).

I am running 9.04 Ubuntu fresh from repository. (AMD64)

Ghostscript receives invalid PS file from gimp. Arrays in PostScript are limited to 64K-1 elements.
I've seen this bug before. Please check whether it's fixed in the latest gimp.

I got this (on a Brother MFC 8840DN, but same issue): invalid PS file from gimp causes error limitcheck in command array; operand 72947.

This happened with Gimp 2.4.5 (2.4.5-1ubuntu2). On your suggestion I upgraded to the latest, 2.6.1-1ubuntu3. Same error.

I can confirm that I have exactly the the same type of problem, and that it is limited to images printed from The Gimp (I can print the exact same image from Geeqie). The error reports from my printer begin:

ERROR: limitcheck
OFFENDING COMMAND: image

STACK:

... then a bunch of gibberish no doubt indicating the contents of the stack in this particular case.

I'm using a 3.2Mb color PNG file, which I'm attempting to print from GIMP 2.6.8 on Lucid. The printer is a Fuji-Xerox C1110 with postscript 3 support. As previously stated, this problem only happens with the Gimp. Alex's remarks have the ring of truth about them, I'd hate to see this issue lost in red tape.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
