KDE BasKet menu text items do not display: similar to OO 3.0 menu and antilaising Nvidia

Bug Description
This is very similar to the Open Office 3.0 problem with antilaising. When set to normal or no visual effects, menu text items are displayed. When visual effects are re-engaged, extra's such as Compiz, for example, the menu text items disappear. It seems to be related to the Nvidia drivers as well. On uninstall of Nvidia, again, menu text items appear.
Using Ubuntu 8.10.
