Bug Description

i am running hardy (8.04) with an ati radeon 2400 graphics card. I am using the fglrx driver as i need this for 3D accelleration

I recently bought an aureon 7.1 sound card

due to some incompetence getting it set up i uninstalled the fglrx driver, and then downloaded the latest version from ati and reinstalled it

i am now experiencing an intermittent problem with my mouse

when i start x all is well, but after some amount of time (not consistent), or perhaps a trigger (unknown) the mouse pointer response becomes very jerky and almost unuseable. this persists for the session, but when x is restarted then all is well again

i attempted to set up the mouse using evdev instead of mouse but x was not happy with this, any movement of the mouse crashed x immediately

i do not know where to investigate the problem further and would appreciate any advice

it's a tad tricky as the problem hides until something triggers it, but i don't know what, so changing something and checking if it's still a problem is difficult

thank you

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

hello

thank you for following up on this issue

i'm afraid that following on from my problems i tried to fix my x config
and after making a number of changes and trying a few experiments i
broke my kernal and was unable to boot into the system at all

As a result i installed a new operating system from source, which is
functioning very well

I am thus unable to provide the configuration files you requested or
provide feedback on the issue

I can only suggest that the report be closed

regards
