Bug Description

Two verified test cases:

a) ubuntu 8.10 with nvidia gfx, gnome, with 3d effects, - when switching user then computer freezes, it looks a lot like bug##88152

b) ubuntu 8.10 with intel gfx, gnome - this is probably SEPARETE bug:
- when using the applet, selecting an user, then it blinks screen (as if changing VT) and then says it fails. repeat 2-3 times and it usually works out eventually

- when I tried the Switch User from the screen-locked dialog (default screen lock) then it didn't worked at all saying that there was X error

/var/log/Xorg.20.log is attached, ends quickly with

 X.Org Server Extension : 1.1
 X.Org Font Renderer : 0.6
(II) Loader running on linux
(++) using VT number 8
Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

/var/log/Xorg.21.log is attached, ends with

(**) Macintosh mouse button emulation: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10, EmulateWheelTimeout: 200
(II) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard: Device reopened after 10 attempts.
(II) Video Bus: Device reopened after 10 attempts.
(II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 5

Switching desktops still fail in 9.04 amd 64, although in far less epic manner.

Now the problem seems to appear only when I use 2 displays (Xinerama), and the problem is a crash.

Note sure if that is identical bug or not?

in xsession errors:
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":20.0".
Xlib: extension "XFree86-Misc" missing on display ":20.0".
Xlib: extension "XFree86-Misc" missing on display ":20.0".

before crash, and on crash I got:

<unknown>: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :20.0.
konsole(713) Konsole::SessionManager::~SessionManager: Konsole SessionManager destroyed with sessions still alive
x-session-manager: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :20.0.
gnome-settings-daemon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :20.0.
Window manager warning: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on display ':20.0'.
nautilus: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :20.0.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
