krunner flickers the screen on every keypress

Bug Description

On a fresh Kubuntu 8.10 install the screen flickers on every keyboard press or mouse roll.
It is almost invisible, but VERY noticable on a remote X session! It makes typing through a remote X session a nightmare.
The flickering is only visible on CRT monitors. On fast systems there are horizontal black lines during typing, but on lower end systems the screen shakes very much.

Killing krunner stops the flickering.

(This is a *different* flicker than the screen flashing every 8 seconds caused by the Kubuntu krandr daemon, which is reported elsewhere.)

I would be curious to know what type of graphics card you have/the drivers your are using.
I had flickering lines going across the screen myself until I installed the binary nvidia drivers. (non-free)

I have a NVidia card on my main system, but I use a Pentium 75 with a SiS card as a remote X terminal, which shows the same (and even more visible) flicker. Only inside the KDE4 session (not the login screen). Killing KRunner stops the flickering, so I don't think the problem is in the card or the graphics driver.

KRunner is most likely only triggering the bug in the drivers. Bug 6365 describes black lines when typing using the free nv (not nvidia proprietary) drivers and SiS.
