Bug Description

Cannot install and print to USB attached HP LJ3030. Error message from cups server:
"Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager. Connection to cups server failed. Check that the cups sewrver is correctly installed and running.Error : host not found"

Restarting and/or reinstalling cupsd did not help.
Systems tried: Kubuntu Dapper 64bit (Flight CD3 with updates from Feb 11)on AMD64. Same result with Daily live CD i386 from Feb11 on both AMD64 and i386 machine. The latter prints ok with Breezy installation on hard drive.

Does your CUPS-server point to /var/run/cups/cups.sock:631? If so, then this is the same as #29638.

See my workaround there to set CUPS server to localhost:631 in KDE.

Indeed cups server pointed to /var/run/cups/cups.sock:631. Using your workaround I reset it to localhost:631. It immediately allowed me to print to the external printer, but the printing hung in "processing..." and nothing ever came out of the printer.
From System-Settings -> Printer (I believe this calls kdeprint ?) I restarted the cups server. From then on I always got an error message "IPP request failed for unknown reason" and was unable to connect to error message. The cups server did still point to localhost:631
By the way : Instead of taking the detour via the systemoptions under the print options in konqueror, kdeprint does seem to allow direct access to these options via the Print Manager button
