Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

I purchased a Click-N-Ship label from usps.com, delivered as a downloadable PDF file. Evince immediately exits with "Segmentation fault" as soon as I try to open it. The document viewer window opens briefly, displays "Loading" then closes.

I was able to open and print these labels on Ubuntu Hardy. I don't know if the problem is a new version of Evince or possibly a change in the PDF files from USPS. I can print the label just fine using Adobe Reader 8.1.3. As soon as the label is opened in Adobe Reader, it shows the print dialog.

This is evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1. I have a copy of the label but I won't upload it because it has a third-party's personal information on it. If a developer wants a copy I'll email it to you.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better, but unfortunately I've been unable to duplicate your issue with other PDF files. I am not a Ubuntu developer, however I do like to assist with the BugSquad. If you would like to email me the PDF, I could attempt to recreate the error and could then mark the bug as confirmed. scar,

For now, just use xpdf:

sudo apt-get install xpdf

This should work fine. Hopefully the developers will get an update for evince soon.

Just performed an update to poppler, libpoppler3/intrepid-updates uptodate 0.8.7-1ubuntu0.1, and was hoping this fixed the issue, however it is still broken for the uspslabel.pdf.

For ease in debugging I'm attaching the example usps label. When printing labels it gives the option to "print a sample". I just saved that example and attach here. It crashes evince, but is fine with xpdf. The gdb backtrace looks the same as that attached above.
