$ ubuntu-bug -p xorg

Error: Cannot open display ":0 -"
                  Exiting
but on 2.6.27-8 generic flavour

Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf where copied from an 2.6.27-11 generic failed session, not from a 2.6.27-8 generic succesfull one.

Strange, but for the better. New kernel versions 2.6.27-11-25 and 2.6.27-11-27 produced no more troubles with the X session. All is working how it should.

Sorry, too good to bew true. I forgot that the new kernel versions use to disable the privative graphic controller. That's what happened. If I load the privative controller, all goes back as before: a black screen. At least disabling does it.

Seems to be solved with installation af ati catalyst driver 9.1 release.

I think this bug could be considered in so far closed.

I've posted a new version of the -fglrx driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
