System : Ubuntu Intrepid
Monitor : 24" LCD with DPMS support
Driver : fglrx (from packages)
GPU : ATI AIW X800 VE (R420)

Steps to reproduce :
- Open a desktop session : screen resolution is 1920x1200
- Power off the monitor. Power it on
-> The screen remain black wheras the monitor is on
- Switch to first console (Ctrl+Alt+F1)
-> The screen correctly display the 640x480 image
- Switch back to X session (Ctrl+Alt+F7)
-> The screen display the top left part of the image (the size is about 160x80)
- Open a terminal (Alt+F2)
- $ xrand --size 640x480
-> The screen correctly display the 640x480 image
- $ xrand --size 1920x1200
-> The screen correctly display the 1920x1200 image. Notice that this command didn't do anything if the size wasn't previously switch to a different size (xrand seems to know that it was using 1920x1200)

Thank you for reporting this bug about fglrx, however the video card mentioned in this bug report is no longer supported in fglrx. ATI only supports R600 and newer chips. You'll want to focus on using the -ati driver instead for this hardware.

Changed in fglrx-installer (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Invalid
