Bug Description

I'm on a 800mhz iBook G3

This is what I get when I boot or restart alsa-utils:
 * Shutting down ALSA... * warning: 'alsactl store' failed with error message 'alsactl: save_state:1163: No soundcards found...'... [fail]
 * Setting up ALSA... * warning: 'alsactl restore' failed with error message 'alsactl: load_state:1236: No soundcards found...'...

I have the exact same situation here, on my ibook g3. No soundcards found. Got this error somewhere in between flight3 and flight4, probably after the upgrade to ALSA 1.0.10? Reinstalled with KUbuntu daily yesterday (2006-06-07) and the bug is still present, no sound at all.

I tried the flight6 live cd on my ibook g3 700 MHz, but I get the same
result with that. No soundcards found. Upgraded my installed dapper to
the new 2.6.15-20 kernel but no change.

@Shunta: Your card is detected quite fine. Can you please do

  aplay /usr/share/sounds/login.wav

check what happens and copy the output here? I rather suspect that it'll play without errors, but you don't hear anything because there is a mixer problem. Can you please do

  sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils stop
  sudo rm -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
  sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start

and check if it works then? We had some mixer problems in earlier versions.

You need to install the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly package to get the
MP3 codec (in universe due to license issues). Playing an ogg etc.
works out of the box.

"Abend"? (That sounds like the German word for "evening"), but it
doesn't make sense to me here).

Oh! Sorry. I use the translation software so that I use English which you make a mistake well.

When I play same file by Rhythmbox, It ended the software selfishly.

After the downloading, it tried playing back from that site.
Playback operation ended with all software on Dapper without error, but sound did not come out.

As I said, it seems that you need to check your audio cables and play
with the mixer settings. Does that help in any way?

Please also do

  amixer > mixer.txt

and attach mixer.txt here. Maybe it'll give us some insight which
particular mixer setting is wrong.

I want to use the internal sound card and put out sound from the internal speaker.
So that I don't use " audio cable".

Try toggling combinations of the above element ('Auto Mute') and 'DRC'.

HeadPhone & HeadPhoneDetect-->off
Bass x 2 & Treble x 2-->about 70% OK

But
PC Speaker,AutoMute,DRC-->off

With GnomeVolumeApplet, all slidebar active. But with alsamixergui, PC Speaker,AutoMute & DRC can't active. This does not become a hint of the problem solving, probably will be?

I found intresting web page.

1.It becomes reference of alsa rebuilding, probably will be?

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#alsa

As for recognition of the sound card however it does, with recognition of the speaker without doing?
There is no self-confidence in this expectation.

have to revert the following parts of your recent PPC Alsa updates to
get sound working again an a 12" pbook. Without that patch headphone
detection is broken (it only works exactly one time) and volume
adjustment is broken also, it's always _very_ quiet. This is no minimal
patch, but maybe it's obvious to you what broke.

Is this patch probably to be applied to the present kernel?

Oh no! I depended on the translation software too much.

I abandoned that using Dapper, putting out sound on the iBookG3.

Sound came out of ibook.

The procedure which puts out sound is
1.Connecting the headphoneplug to the headphone terminal.
2.Boot iBookG3.(at that time, sound does not come out.)
3.The headphoneplug takes out and puts in many times.(Approximately 3or4 times)
4.When the headphone is removed, sound comes out of the internal speaker.

I think that "Problem of No sound" cause to be a Plug&Play function.
If the Plug&Play function of Alsa is made null, isn't problem to solve?

This debdiff against the current Ubuntu Dapper alsa-utils source package borrows an amendment from the current Debian Sid alsa-utils source package, adding Tumbler to the preinit_levels_on_card() dance.

This should resolve the issue reported by <email address hidden>.

Hypothetical basis above

1.After the iBookG3 booting, Connecting the headphoneplug to the headphone terminal.
2.Verifying that sound has come out of the headphone
3.Open "Volume Control Appletl" on the menu bar and select Switch tab.
4."Headphone checkbox" has become effective.
5.When the headphone is removed, sound comes out of the internal speaker.
6.Open "Volume Control Appletl" on the menu bar and select Switch tab.
7."PC Sperker" has become effective and "Headphone checkbox" has become null.
8.Until it shuts down, sound has come out.
9.After restart sound stops coming out, I work similarly in order to put out sound.

This phenomenon is reported with also the ubuntu Japanese mailing list.
