Ctrl-Alt-8 and Ctrl-Alt-2 no longer work when mapped as keyboard shortcuts

Bug Description

I have a keyboard that doesn't have multimedia keys to control the volume. I use the machine for development so I mapped an obscure key combination to control the volume up/down. These keyboard shortcuts worked with gutsy and hardy. I recently upgraded to interpid and it no longer works.

I remapped the shortcuts to use ctrl-up/ctrl-down instead as a short term fix. I'm not sure why they suddenly stopped working.

Hello, Trey!

Thank you for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better!

Are you using Gnome? Did you set the keyboard shortcuts with System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts?

Thank you.

I'm moving your report to gnome-control-center.

Anyway I've tried to reproduce your bug but it works great for me!

Thank you.

Hello Michele,

Please try it again. I noticed that I didn't clearly state that the key combination is ctrl+alt+8 and ctrl+alt+2. The number 8 or 2 map to the up and down arrow on the number keypad. When I tried this key combination using the numbers 8 and 2 on the main keyboard it worked.

Thanks,
-- Trey

Thanks for your clarification.

I've successfully reproduced this bug. For this reason I'm going to mark this report as confirmed.
I've also tried with other keys combinations such as Ctrl+Alt+7 but they still didn't work.

Thank you for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better!

I'll try this out on Jaunty when I have a machine with a number keypad running it. Maybe somebody else can try it for me now.

I just tried it and it is still broken. In fact, using ctrl+alt+8 and ctrl+alt+2 with the numbers above the keyboard don't work in jaunty, whereas they did work in intrepid. So this key combination is completely broken for me with jaunty.
