Stops printing on USB brother inkjet with cups error: "No pages found!"

I was printing fine on my Brother MFC-260C via usb and today it stopped working,

/var/log/cups/error_log reports:
E [18/Dec/2008:14:07:30 +0000] [Job 967] No pages found!

for each job, and nothing comes out of the printer.

Please attach the output of the PrintingBugInfoScript as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript (the Hardy version works for Intrepid, too)

Sam Liddicott, can you again send a job and post an error_log in debug mode? The one you posted is not complete. It must at least go to the place where the "No pages found" occurs.

The debug log I posted has this line:

Sorry, did not see it. I had another look and saw another problem. Can you please replace your /usr/lib/cups/filter/cpdftocps file by the attached one? Please make sure that you make the new file world-executable.

I was also having the same issues on my Brother HL-4050CDN and MFC-480CN.
