Hi Pascal, thank you for contributing on Ubuntu. Please take the time to provide the following information. Run and attach the output of:

$ lsb_release -a

$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core

$ lspci -vvnn

Also please attach the following files:

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
~/.xsession-errors

Do you have any more comments? Anything you have noticed, any special configuration? Are there any steps to reproduce this? If you have more than one box, does this happen in your other ubuntu installs?

Thanks.

I've recently swtiched to the new nvidia beta driver and using twinview.
However the bugreport was filed before I did this, and it's still happening.
