Scrumbled or no fonts in many gnome or KDE configuration menus and wine config menu

upgraded from 8.04 hardy heron to ubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibix and theres no fonts both in Gnome and kde4 in some submenus like kaffeine configuration menus, or wine config .also any wine installer doesnt display any dialogs.instead there are some random underscores everywhere as in the other cases..in gnome i even get fonts with smudged appearance sometimes-depends if i use safe mode if i pass the mouse cursor quickly over the empty fields you can see some fonts and they dissapear instantly .never had that problem in any previous version.wine is latest version 1.0.1-0ubuntu2.kaffeine is 0.8.6-2ubuntu2 .i mainly suspect gtk irregularities.. any opinions on this one ??
