Bug Description

I have been searching for a solution to this problem for months, and I seem to have hit a dead end. Here's my situation.

Under default settings my sound works perfectly. Audio is a good volume, and everything is crisp and clear. The only problem is that my HDMI audio does not work. In order to fix that, I added this line to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file according to this site: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

This fixed my HDMI problem, but unfortunately it has caused my speaker/headphone volume to be dramatically cut. The audio still works, but I have to put everything up to 100% just to be able to barely hear it. I have checked alsamixer and the gnome volume control panel, and everything is set to 100% (front, PCM, etc.). When I take that line out of my alsa-base file, my audio returns back to normal.

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 on a HP Dv6700 Special Edition laptop.

Here is a link to my alsa-info.sh: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=f8dd4a5ec54b0df988ebef8072960132fe6478b6

When I add that line to my alsa-base file, the only thing that changes in my aplay is another entry identical to the first entry except it says "Digital" where it says "Analog".

Right now I just run normally without that line in my alsa-base file, and I have to edit that file and reboot every time I want to use my HDMI port. It's not horrible, but obviously I would like everything to work properly.

Hi noelsusman,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 308339

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
