Bug Description

See below my machine settings and syslog from a fresh restart to when the problem happened.
[Syndrome]
There is a hardware touchpad on/off button with my laptop.
I use it because on Ubuntu, when typing, the cursor would randomly jump
here and there. I usually enable it when my USB mouse is not available.
Before yesterday this works well, until when I switched it on and off consecutively
for a few times; suddenly all keyboard response is gone and I had to press
the power button. THEN......

When I see the button lights are back, the screen didn't....
The screen is dark and all button-lights are on. And the system won't boot.
I had to take out my battery and power plug to clean up BIOS to call the system
back.

It's perfectly reproducible. I did it 5 times in a row :(

I know this is not a bug fix, but in the mean time, have you tried this as a workaround:

Hi kakyo,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.
