Bug Description

We need a specification describing the current changelog syntax for 'linkification' and a possible malone interface, which is missing. Currently the old 'linkfication' proccess was removed because it was obsolete and undocumented.

Matsubara, certanly it helps, but I think change the normal linkification proccess can't cover the local sourcepackagerelease replacements in:
{{{
<sourcename> (<version>) <distrorelease>; urgency=<urgency>
}}}

The changelog linkification originally aims to replace the <version> text by a link to "...HERE/version", which is the respective page for this sourcepackagerelease.

It's only possible when you know the <sourcename> in question. This issue remains local, can't be easyally solved in a external domain. Maybe if we could pass the sourcename somehow to the formatter we could solve this issue.

Apart of that the mentioned documentation can be extented to suport debian bugs and warty (old style) bugs.

Anyway, it should be part only of our wishlist atm, we have other critical bugs to handle.

Couldn't this be linked with update-manager to show changelogs from Launchpad, as the archives are a bit slow. See bug #39462

Bruce,

I didn't get the relevance of your comment here in this context, since we are talking about defining and documenting a syntax to be used by developers when writing changelog files to automatically access some LP facilities as Malone API.

It's move convenient to discuss that sort of suggestion there (in bug #39462) and keep this bug for the original discussion, changelog syntax.

I'd say more, what you are suggesting deserves a new bug, because it's a totally different direction and requires pondering about the assumptions, like __archives are a bit slow__ .

I don't think there's anything worth fixing here; the changelog spec for closing bugs already exists, and the linkification is being fixed up right now by Matsubara.
