Bug Description

Tryed to install latest Dapper daily build on my home computer, but it fails to find ethernet card.

Wireless Card: CNet CWP-854 with RT2560F Chipset.

I have seen reported several places that this card works under linux. It might be that it is working on a already installed system, but not on a new install.

So, the same computer is working with windows.
It is No encryption. Gateway has IP 192.168.132.20 Subnet 255.255.255.0
Access Point is named: Strigen Access Point

I tryed to install Dapper, even if it didn't find the network card, and guess what.. When I rebooted, the card did show up in the device manager.

I then tryed to configure it with static IP, and DHCP (I normally use dhcp), but none of them works.

Below is some various outputs.

Your issue appears to be that your card isn't bound to the right essid (in your output it says "Strigen Access Point" but your iwlist only shows "3Com". What is the essid of your access point and does it have broadcast beacons turned off?

The issue is not the Access pont thing... The main problem, wich I reported here is that the installer does NOT find the card at all.... That it shows up afterwards, and that it might be possible in some way or another to get it installed is not really that interesting... The reason is that people with less experience, will not install at all if they encounter this "bug"..

But, thanks for the input, My access point essid is: Strigen Access Point
The broadcast is turned on, the linux computer connected to it is set up with DHCP ans so on... It is working on my other 2 computers, with Windows XP, and Dapper/win XP on the other.

I have now solved this one.
I changed my access point from channel 12 and down to 6.
Then iwlist scan did show my access point, my computer connected, and did got an ip adr. through dhcp...

Then the big question is.. why doesn't this card work under ubuntu on channel 12. I have another laptop, wich worked fine with ubuntu on channel 12. The trouble machine does also work on channel 12 with windows....

Ubuntu (or linux) not working with rtXXXX cards in some channels could be caused by incorrect locale settings. Channels allowed by the current locale settings of the card can be viewed with:

iwconfig <interface> freq
