Bug Description

I use Ubuntu 8.04 on a desktop with the RaLink rt2561/rt61 pci wireless card.
Wireless worked out-of-the-box, but the computer used to freeze randomly. I learned from the thread at the ubuntu forum http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=832383 that updating wireless driver might help.
So I installed the package linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-22-generic.
As far as I understand, it downloads and installs the newest versions of all drivers automatically.

The driver was automatically updated to the version 2.1.8.
It appeared, however, that now the wireless does not work at all.
It does see the available wireless networks but fails to connect.

As far as I understand, the problem is with the driver version 2.1.8 rather than with the package linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-22-generic.
I don't no which package the driver belong to. Therefore I left the corresponding field empty.
