no sound output from CD or Radio : ok on windows

Sound is good when i am useing Windows Xp

Do you have no sound in general or does an mp3 work, but only cd or radio not? Is there any sound in other applications?
Just by chance:
Does it help to set PCM in "alsamixer -Dhw" to 80 and unmute the channel if necessary with the key M?
