Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Any right click in the right window (where emails are listed) will close evolution.
Any right in an email will close evolution.

I have the problem with ubuntu 8.10 up to date as of now with hardy-proposed included.

The only error I can provide you with is what is written in the terminal if I launch evolution "manually" and then right click on an e-mail header or inside an email.

camel:ERROR:camel-mime-message.c:432:camel_mime_message_get_subject: assertion failed: (mime_message)

see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/294077 for the installed packages list

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

this is the second time you talk about /var/crash, there is nothing in that when the bug happens. so provide us with a detailed way of creating a crash report (if it is a crash which I doubt because otherwise there would be a warning of crash report in Ubuntu.

It simply closes with error
camel:ERROR:camel-mime-message.c:432:camel_mime_message_get_subject: assertion failed: (mime_message)

I have this same problem. Managed to take a backtrace. I hope this helps, because the problem is very irritating.

In this trace, I simply started evolution and right clicked a mail message.

Hi,

I' v experienced the same thing with an evolution 2.28.0 and 2.26.1 (ubuntu karmic / kde 4.3.2) but not at start of it's usage.

By deduction i was thinking of disabling all plugins, and after sorting plugins by enabling them one after one i found that
was the "models" plugin make evolution crash. In French language it's named "Modèles"

Error message from console when right-clicking and "models" plugin enable:

camel:ERROR:camel-mime-message.c:430:camel_mime_message_get_subject: assertion failed: (mime_message)
Abandon (core dumped)

I can't send an error report cause of my setup ... Karmic devel branch...

Thanks for xtrip for the tip. I checked my plugins, and found out that after disabling "templates" plugin, evolution seemed to work again.

Thank you, xtrip, you made my day! The bug had been bugging me for over a year.

So, if somebody has this kind of crash problem, go to evolution -> edit -> plugin -> disable "Templates"

Disabling "Templates" fixed it, thanks.

This worked for me too. I've been having Evolution freeze regularly for about 6 months, finally found this thread. Edit/Plugins disable Templates, restarted Evolution, solved it.
