Bug Description

Binary package hint: istanbul

Note this is *not* a hard crash, the process just goes to 0% CPU must be killed via users method of choice. This bug has extremely similar symptomology to bug 63996

Test Case 1 (Lockup Causing):
1. Enable desktop effects via system->preferences->appearance->visual effects
2. Start istanbul and uncheck the "record 3D" option
3. Let istanbul record the desktop for a few seconds, then end the recording via a left click on the icon.

Expected Behavior: Istanbul prompts the user for the directory in which to save the recording file and returns to the system tray in non-recording mode.

Observed Behavior: Nothing happens. Tray icon no longer displays tooltip or responds to input. istanbul process must be killed via terminal/htop/ect...

Test Case 2 (Works Fine):
1. Disable desktop effects via system->preferences->appearance->visual effects
2. Start istanbul and make sure the record 3D option is unchecked
3. Let istanbul record the desktop for a few seconds, then end the recording via a left click on the icon.

Expected Behavior = Observed Behavior: Istanbul prompts the user for the directory in which to save the recording file and returns to the system tray in non-recording mode.

Test Case 3 (Works Fine):
1. Enable desktop effects via system->preferences->appearance->visual effects
2. Start istanbul and make sure the record 3D option is enabled
3. Let istanbul record the desktop for a few seconds, then end the recording via a left click on the icon.

Expected Behavior = Observed Behavior: Istanbul prompts the user for the directory in which to save the recording file and returns to the system tray in non-recording mode.

Same issue with affects enables, seems specific to having compiz enabled.

Running Karmic with compiz enabled on ATI hardware with propriety drivers.
