Hmmm, can you try another cd/dvd drive?

I searched in the Synaptic Package manager for Nokia and found a number of native linux apps that work for a whole range of different handsets so that you wouldn't have to struggle with exporting/importing data as you change handsets over the years.

Another way might be to try downloading the Nokia Suite from their website? A google search gave me a few sites worth try and the download was only 31.7Mb so it'd be fairly quick. I tried

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/Nokia/Nokia-PC-Suite.shtml

but there was also

http://www.downloadpipe.com/drivers/review-Nokia-6125-USB-OBEX-1127190.html

As it turned out the Nokia (Europe) site was too slow and heavy for me, i couldn't be bothered to wait for its animations to appear.

Anyway, good luck with trying those 3 different routes. I tend to prefer native linux apps rather than running stuff through Wine/DosBox/whatever, otherwise i just don't feel like i really have the freedom i'm aiming for. Anyway, each to their own - good luck and have fun :)

I have 2 dvd drives, the one that's slightly older also happens to be a slightly less reliable brand but was a lot cheaper when i bought it. Its great mostly but occasionally has a bit of trouble.

I find that whichever drive has trouble reading something usually the other one can cope with it. i tend to use my glasses cleaner cloth to clean the bottom of a dvd that wont read although Rob had one that was so scratched that he used a sanding-machine to smooth it down!! It worked but i definitely wouldn't recommend it!!

lol

Good luck and have fun :)
