Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfmedia

When I ran "sudo apt-get install xfmedia", the libxine1-ffmpeg package didn't get installed automatically. As a result, audio playback kept failing. After a manual "sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg", xfmedia started working. Other users are hitting this too:

xfmedia on jaunty currently only depends on libxine1; libxine1-ffmpeg is currently in main in intrepid, and jaunty, and in universe, so adding it as a dependency isn't a huge issue, but I'll run this by other Xubuntu developers before making any changes. As a note, what release of Xubuntu are you running, Gusty, Hardy, Intrepid, or jaunty?

See Bug #257611. Xfmedia should recommend libxine-ffmpeg, otherwise mpeg support is missing.

Appreciate the efforts on fixing this.

I was experiencing the same issues on my freshly installed Xubuntu 8.10 PC, but then with video playback (wmv files for example). Although I had all common codecs installed (through Totem, which I use as well), Xfmedia didn't start up any of the videos.

It would only start up, blink with the video screen once and disappear (leaving only the play/pause/stop screen etc. behind).

Then read somewhere that installing libxine1-ffmpeg could help (thanks Boris). Did that and now it works without problems!
