Bug Description

This particular bug has been with me since Hardy but it was so close to Intrepid Release I thought I would wait and see if the problem resolved itself. It did not.

I Have HDA INTEL SigmaTel STAC9271X

I can select the input source as shown in the attached picture however once I close the Mixer and re-open it they are again unchecked.

I have tried all 3 microphone ports on my computer to no avail.

In the volume control if analog loopback is checked all I hear is static. The rest of my sound works fine it is only my microphone which will not work.

I have tried running alsamixer through the terminal and was not able to fix anything.

I download the alsa-info.sh file and it gave me this link

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=311883fecccfbabecc21a46cc66c606c3408e4a7

and said my information was located there. I have copied it to a text document and uploaded it with this post.

I thought it should be noted that I have upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and still have this issue.

Some things went haywire On Jaunty upgrade so I did a fresh install and still no mic. All the same symptoms are present.

Ms_Angel_D, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I would love to be able to tell you whether this was still an issue with the latest version of Ubuntu, however I no longer have that system. However I can tell you the mic did not work on any versions of ubuntu I used on it the last being Oneiric Ocelot 11.10.
