Bug Description

With kernels after 2.6.22 (2.6.24, 2.6.27), I can no longer read cdroms. If I attempt to read a cdrom, the system hangs after ~ 20 MB data read. However, burning CDs and audio listening is ok.
The problem seem to have appeared with Hardy (I'm not sure as I don't use CDs very often). I've migrated to Intrepid, but this didn't help.
So for the time being, I stay with a kernel 2.6.22 under Intrepid.

My config: Acer Aspire 1310. 30 GB HDD, 512M RAM. AMD processor ~ 1.6 GHz. wifi netgear wg511v2.

all is right, but Michel, i believe that is a kernel problem, not a ubuntu bug.
because if you put the new stable kernel version, this version don have any drivers for ati,and other things.

Sure, I also believe that this is a kernel issue. But as I'm using
Ubuntu and only Ubuntu since several years, in my mind, the kernel was
part of Ubuntu. Your remark reminds me that this is not the case.
So the next two questions are:
1) How do I report a kernel bug?
2) when you say "the new stable kernel version", which version do you mean?

thanks & regards,
Michel.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 307279

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Thanks for your inquiry. I'm currently unable to reproduce the problem
because the CD device is no longer accessible, even not from the startup
menu. I suspect something is wrong with the connection, as I recently
had to disassemble the computer to solve a power problem.
In the meantime I have installed karmic with the PXE network boot, so if
I can wake up the CD unit, I will be able to test it (I just have to
find the energy needed to re-open the laptop, what means unscrew some 40
screws and screw them again...)

I will keep you informed.
Best regards,
Michel.
