I confirm this.

amule package conflicts with libgd2-noxpm. Removing the latter also removes ubuntu-desktop.

I mean not the amule package itselfconflicts with libgd2-noxpm, but the libgd2-xpm which is installed as a dependency

Then there is a problem with libgd2-xpm not with amule
