Bug Description

Also, I'm running this on a USB Startup Disk.
When upgrading, I got this message:
update-initramfs is disabled since running on a live CD
Is there any way for this to be fixed even if I am running Ubuntu off of a USB?
If not, is there any way for me to run Ubuntu 8.10, or any other OS off of a USB so as not to have this error?
I also saw the updater install some other Linux image: "linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic"; will the above error affect this from installing successfully?
I'm a noob in Linux. Actually, I only just recently got acquired the Live CD image about a few weeks ago.

I'm also having a lot of trouble with the screen resolution, which is stuck at max. 800x600. I've been tinkering with xorg.conf as in some forums, but those efforts were absolutely fruitless. I need help on this, though Ubuntu 8.10 is in a USB.

I don't really want to install Ubuntu into the computer because it's a family computer. If these don't work, will these work if I installed Ubuntu 8.10 into the computer with Wubi?

Thanks,
            Pagan

had the same problem as pagan. basically made the bonehead assumption that burning the ubuntu iso onto the USB was the equal to an installation. not. a burn just makes the USB into a bootable device. using a Sandisk USB (16G). erased the manufactor stuff like U3 (http://u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ3). created 2 partitions (not necessary) in accordance with a post on a linux forum (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/05/08/usb-ubuntu-804-persistent-install-via-the-live-cd/). and finnally did the install based on another forum (http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1873)
