upgrade from hardy to intrepid failed : Segmentation fault in post-removal script in many package

I've got these errors while upgrading to 8.10 from 8.04, through update manager

After I post the bug reports i reboot the system & i got something as
grub starts loading it said can not mount root (0,0) ...something
similer.
