Disk Writer only burns if you save ISO first

Bug Description

System type: Dell Studio 1535
Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Desktop)

When trying to back up my hard drive before shipping the computer back to Dell (proprietary wireless card), I was unable to burn the DVD-R. When I clicked "Burn to Disk" after using the drag/drop method, it said to insert a blank or re-writable disk. However, after saving an ISO and double-clicking it, the burn worked without problems. Not sure if this is Gnome, Ubuntu, Nautilus, or something else.

I'm not sure what specific type of drive it is, but I know it's a DVD+/-RW slot-load tray. Default configuration with the computer, I think.

the software was replaced by a brasero backend, is this still an issue with karmic?
