Shutdown Halted

I have all of the Ubuntu updates, running version 8.1 with two IDE drives. When the computer is shutting down it responds with this error:

halt: Unable to iterate IDE devices. No such file or directory.

Then the computer will not finish shutting down, I have to press the power button the case to completely shutdown the computer.
