Bug Description

i used to have audio but i'm not sure what broke it. when i play an audio file (or the built in audio test) i can hear a faint flicker noise but no proper sound. (the flicker stops when i stop the audio playing).

i have attached some files if they are any help, is there any other files that would help?

this sounds like the same sort of sound issues reported on a number of bugs, a crackling instead of the expected sound. In a lot of these this has been tracked back to a bug which only exposes itself when the PCM mixer channel is on 0 volume; some other bug triggers the loss of the alsa mixer values and it being 0. See bug #293405.

So could you check your alsa mixer PCM volume, and if it is 0, up it to a sensible value, retest and report back here.

Thank you Andy!

I had to turn up the PCM volume for the "HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer)" Device. I didn't notice this because in volume control device was set to "Realtek ALC885 (OSS Mixer)".

Thats cool. I will then mark this a duplicate of bug #293405, well actually bug #272321 as that is a duplicate too.
