after automatic update, /usr/lib is not in library path

Bug Description

Not sure about the cause, but this morning (but I maybe did not reboot for a long time) the synaptic and eclipse (and possibly many more progs) stopped working with the message :

$ synaptic
synaptic: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: cairo_scaled_font_get_font_options

The workaround is adding line :
/usr/lib
to the file (for example) "/etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc.conf".

And then running "ldconfig" as root.

I am not sure what the root cause is ... only I know that the "libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu7" installed as the last package.

Bye, bq

assigning to the eglibc source package
bq, is this still an issue for you with Karmic? (remove /usr/lib from /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc.conf, run sudo ldconfig)
thank you

affects: ubuntu → eglibc (Ubuntu)
