Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

When I run OpenOffice.org, everything opens and runs fine until I click focus onto another window or the desktop. When the office window loses focus, the screen generally flickers and then all is back to normal. When returning focus to the office window, the same flicker happens again. Occasionally, changing focus to or from the office window causes Compiz to crash and the wm reverts to Metacity. This happened both while I was running Hardy and now that I have a fresh install of Ibex.

Ubuntu 8.10
kernel 2.6.27

Here is the result of dmesg from the last two crashes:
[ 4795.278096] compiz.real[6802]: segfault at 1b1 ip b735ac07 sp bff695a4 error 4 in libanimation.so[b7356000+12000]
[ 5363.471651] compiz.real[7205]: segfault at 1b1 ip b739ac07 sp bfdab734 error 4 in libanimation.so[b7396000+12000]

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Changed in compiz:
status: New → Invalid

Thanks your reply. I have reproduced the crash but there is no .crash file in /var/crash so I'm not really sure how to go about reporting this any other way.
