Bug Description

Xcb-util >= 0.3.0 is required by Awesome 3.0 (bug #253985). Current Jaunty version is 0.2.1, Debian experimental provides 0.3.2 and it should be ported to Jaunty.

Regarding (bug #253985), We're awaiting this sync so we can get our ancient awesome package up to date.

dget -u --build http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/x/xcb-util/xcb-util_0.3.3-2.dsc
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Has worked perfectly fine.

Additionally, this is now a Debian Unstable (Not experimental) sync.

Updating this package this late in the cycle seems fairly risky to me. Please complete this FFE request with the necessary information according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#FeatureFreeze%20Exceptions.

I find that updating the version of a single package from universe to be a fairly unsatisfactory rationale for pulling a new upstream version of a core X library, and believe it would be better to decline this request regardless of whether it appears "safe".

Could someone please generate a list of packages which depend on one of the libraries built from xcb-util?

If I'm not mistaken among the libraries built from xcb-util only libxcb-render-util0 is used by any other package. And this library did not change between releases 0.2.1 and 0.3.3:

$ diff -r xcb-util-0.2.1/renderutil/ xcb-util-0.3.3/renderutil/
diff -r xcb-util-0.2.1/renderutil/Makefile.in xcb-util-0.3.3/renderutil/Makefile.in

The new version of xcb-util is present in karmic. This isn't suitable for SRU to Ubuntu 9.04; closing the bug report.
