Bug Description

Binary package hint: hotkey-setup

# lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

# apt-cache policy hotkey-setup
hotkey-setup:
  Installé : 0.1-23ubuntu7

My Fn+F7 and Fn+F8 keys are not working. Fn+F7 must brightnessDown and Fn+F8 must brightnessUp my LCD. Fn+F4 must change my video out.

dmidecode -s system-manufacturer
Hewlett-Packard
dmidecode -s system-product-name
HP Compaq 6735s
dmidecode -s system-version
F.03

I changed the file /usr/share/hotkey-setup/hp.hk to add the two following line :

setkeycodes e012 $KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN # Fn-F7 Brightness down
setkeycodes e017 $KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP # Fn-F8 Brightness up
setkeycodes e06e $KEY_VIDEOOUT # Fn-F4

It resolved my problem for brightness, but I was unable to test for videout (maybe it is not working, or maybe my tv doesn't accept my laptop video out mode). But what I am sure that the key number e06e is right for the key videout.

Seems to be broken again in 11.10. In 11.04 screen brightness was also too low, but it could be fixed by adding lines to /etc/rc.local or changing lines in /etc/default/grub, but that no longer works for me. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1751333&page=4
