Bug Description
Binary package hint: fglrx-kernel-source
I am running kubuntu intrepid on a dell inspiron 1521; it has an ATI radeon x1270, according to the user manual. I have been successfully using the "radeon" driver for the video card. I ran jockey, which informed me that I could install the fglrx driver, and I did. It seemed to install version 8.543 of the fglrx driver.
Following restart, when kdm attempted to launch, I got a message in the lower right corner of the screen saying "Testing only; unsupported video card." and a spinning mouse cursor, after which it seemed to crash and then relaunch in an endless cycle. When I would switch to a different tty, kdm would relaunch too quickly (switching me back to tty7) for me to edit my X configuration.
The only way I could fix this was to reboot into single-user mode and restore my old X configuration.
Ubuntu Version: 8.10

Installed: 2:8.543-0ubuntu4
Candidate: 2:8.543-0ubuntu4
Hi dkesh,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/)
If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/ Xorg.0. log?
Thanks in advance.
