Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

I opened a .aup file copied from another computer, and Audacity presents
a dialog labelled

"Inspecting project file data..."

which does not seem to progress. There is about 1Gb of sound data files.

Audacity consumes about 10% of CPU, and the X server about 85% while
this is happening; if I kill audacity, the X usage goes back to normal
(roughly 0%).

It's useful to note that the upstream thread contains a much more detailed description of the bug, plus a workaround which worked for me.

Thanks for closing this bug; maybe it would be possible to add some wording apologising for not getting around to it? The way this particular message is worded it looks as though it's telling the user "you dummy, you reported a bug in an out-of-date version of Ubuntu", rather than "sorry, we didn't manage to get around to this bug you filed 15 years ago". (Debian have some such wording in the message they post when a package is removed from their repos.)

Hi Reuben,

It's mostly copypasta, to be honest. Just trying to close bugs that aren't relevant anymore, especially considering we have bugs that have decade-old stacktraces that don't help solve problems anymore. Rest assured, though, the bug is most likely fixed in the latest versions of Audacity, just not this particular version of this package which isn't even available in Ubuntu's repositories anymore, but a much newer version.

Also, to be honest, the copypasta is meant for newer bugs that are filed against these old packages, so it's possible that some better wording could be created.

Thanks.

Copypasta is fine (as in the case of the Debian "package removed" message I mentioned, as it's easier to change! I appreciate the clean-up effort.
