Bug Description

When changing the brightness levels in Ubuntu 8.10, the portion of the screen corresponding to the popup of the brightness level gets stuck in the screen, masking what is underneath it. This only happens when changing the brightness level after replugging the power supply in the laptop that was running on battery, and gnome-power-manager updating the plugged state.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-osd.

I can get rid of this issue by doing:

xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL legacy

I just found out it was the solution in another bug...

*please*, this has nothing to do with gnome-osd, right? Gnome OSD is just a framework for displaying messages overlaid on screen; it has nothing to do with LCD brightness or power management.
