Bug Description

4) On startup the computer pauses for a long time, by blacklisting acx it doesnt do this pause (pause is about 1 minute long). I think this part is due to me not setting it up in /etc/network/interfaces coz i've never got that file to work. Once i've logged in, I have a script which pretty much tells it to bring up wlan0 and then gets it an ip address via dhcp. It's worked across every version of ubuntu i've used since gutsy. I'm fairly sure this script is fine, as it establishes a connection (I can browse the net). After about several seconds after i've started the script, the connection dies, it does semi-go ie if I wait like 5 minutes then the connection just suddenly starts going for several seconds again, then it dies again. I've checked and it still has an ip address, all my network settings from iwconfig and ifconfig seem perfect, so I'm assuming this is a bug in either the acx module or the kernel. I've tried recompiling the acx module after downloading it from the acx website and then applied a patch i found someone which got rid of the ioctl.c errors, but once i did this it told me it couldn't find the firmware, so i've given up on that idea. I can't run ndiswrapper coz i'm running 64bit.

1) I'm running ubuntu 8.10
2) kernel version is 2.6.27-7-generic
3) I expected my networking to work as well as, if not better than in hardy.

This problem has occured in one of the hardy update kernels as well, but I waited it out, using the old one, and then the bug got fixed, However I can't do that this time coz when I ran dpkg after getting the new ubuntu version it uninstalled my old kernel without me realising :S So currently I have no usable network connection on my ubuntu pc :S

Lol i feel stupid now, i'm still not sure what was wrong, but i installed the network-config package and setup with that, now its working fine, so it must be something in my script to start networking :S

How do i close this? XD
